Carola Spadoni è filmmaker e artista. Ha studiato cinema al Brooklyn College di New York dove ha vissuto dal 1988 al 1998. Dai primi anni novanta declina l'attività di filmmaker come regista e sceneggiatrice, curatrice di screenings e rassegne, relatrice in lectures e con interventi scritti per varie pubblicazioni. Ha all'attivo cortometraggi, music videos, documentari, un lungometraggio e due installazioni, presentati in diversi festival e rassegne internazionali tra cui la Berlinale, Chicago Int'l FF, Cairo Int'l FF, Transmediale, Netmage, Torino FF, Anthology Film Archives e Knitting Factory. Dal 1998 espone in gallerie d'arte e musei. Nel 2003 è tra i vincitori del premio Giovane Arte Italiana della Darc, ed espone alla 50 Biennale d'Arte di Venezia. La matrice dei suoi lavori è la narrazione cinematografica. In alcuni più lineare (Giravolte/Freewheeling in Roma, Neighbors) in altri prende forme sperimentali (Al confine tra il Missouri e la Garbatella/Freddy & Victor blind date) e installative (DIO è MORTO/GOD is DEAD, Live Through This). Narrazione che gravita intorno a personaggi borderline, territori aperti al divenire, politics del contemporaneo. Rielabora generi cinematografici e nelle installazioni lavora sull'intensità di gesti, stati d’animo e accadimenti più che sullo evoluzione classica di una storia. Uno degli ultimi lavori, Live Through This, è esposto nella mostra Collateral: quando l'arte guarda il cinema - Milano 2007. |
Carola Spadoni is a filmmaker and artist. She studied cinema at the Brooklyn College, New York, where she lived from 1988 to 1998. From the beginning of the 90's her role of filmmaker has combined being a director and screenwriter, curator of screenings , lecturer and freelance writer for various publications. She made short movies, music videos, documentaries, a feature film and two installations pieces. Her film and videos have been shown in international film festival such as the Berlinale, the Chicago Intl'FF, the Cairo Int'l FF, Transmediale, Netmage, Torino FF, Anthology Film Archives and the Knitting Factory. Since 1998 she also showed her works in art galleries and museums. In 2003 Carola won the Young Italian Art prize, promoted by the Darc and Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and exhibited at the 5oth Art Biennal in Venice. The starting point of her works is cinema narrative. In some works more linear ( Giravolte / Freewheeling in Roma, Neighbors) whereas in others it takes non linear narrative paths and experimental forms (Al confine tra il Missouri e la Garbatella/Freddy & Victor blind date, DIO è MORTO/GOD is DEAD, Live Through This). Borderline characters, open territories, and contemporary politics are main subjects in her narrations. She reworks fiction genres. In her installations works the focus is more on gestures, moods and emotions than on the classical progress of a narration. One of her last work, Live Through This, is showing in the exhibition Collateral: when art looks at cinema - Milano 2007. |
